This morning I was sitting on the floor changing a diaper when duke came up to me and put his nose in my face, looking directly in my eyes. And my mind immediately thought, “that would make a fun picture.” I love it when that happens.
I have been trying to figure out how to achieve the look I want for my photos. I love a lot of different styles, but I think the one that speaks to me most is pretty well represented by the photographer Andrea Hanki (many others too, but she is one who’s name & pictures I know). I find the bright & airy look a lot easier to accomplish (and I do love that look as well), so I feel like it is has been a bit of a fall back for me. But it’s not the style that has my heart. So I’ve been studying images & trying to put my finger on exactly how to achieve that look.
I think these photos represent something much closer to my goal than most of the other things I’ve shot & posted so far.
My only regret with these shots is that my shutter speed was a bit slow (1/125) to get a decent exposure (my ISO was already at 3200 & I didn’t want to open my aperture any more & blur out more of Duke’s face), so I ended up with some motion blur in this photo:
Otherwise, this one would be photo 15. And honestly even with his out of focus eyes I just love it.
Trying to get Duke to sit in the light the way I wanted him to & to look at the camera was quite a challenge. After a bit he seemed to get annoyed of my lens right up in his face. So we pulled out a treat and continued until I was sure I had at least a few good shots.
I like to think it’ll be much easier with people, although with kids, maybe not.
A few more of my favorites for your viewing pleasure.
