John was being so cute today while he had a naked bottom after a diaper change. Whenever his bottom is naked, he seems more likely to eat his feet. I grabbed my (new!!) camera & started clicking.
I have to say I was rather proud of my process. I started out shooting him in profile with his feet in his mouth. I decided even with my lens wide open there was too much going on in the background. So I switched to this overhead approach, although he was situated straight up & down in the frame. And the light was pretty flat. So I opened the blinds & took some more. The light was much better…more dynamic now. Then I decided to switch to a more diagonal composition. And I’m so pleased with the result! I think Kirsten Lewis would be so proud. Kirsten is an amazing lifestyle photographer…really more of a family photojournalist. I’ve been taking a class from her on CreativeLive & her philosophy is composition, light & moment. I think I’ve got all three here!
Then the difficult question of how to edit. I think my heart loves the style above but my initial instinct is always the style below. I just keep repeating in my head, “expose for the highlights.”
I’m curious, which do you like best?
